On 29 June 2026, Switzerland issued a declaration under the Joint Statement on a Framework for a United States-Switzerland-Liechtenstein Agreement on Fair, Balanced, and Reciprocal Trade. As part of this initiative, Switzerland reiterated its intention to facilitate the acceptance of medical devices that have been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Swiss market.
To support this objective, Switzerland plans to amend the relevant ordinances by the third quarter of 2027. The proposed changes would facilitate market entry for FDA cleared or approved medical devices and improve patient access to innovative healthcare technologies in Switzerland.
While the announcement signals a positive step toward greater regulatory cooperation between Switzerland and the United States, the declaration explicitly states that it “does not constitute a legally binding instrument creating or affecting any rights or obligations under international law”.
