The AI Act has achives its first milestone. The first phase implementation took effect on February 2, 2025.
As a result, AI systems deemed to pose unacceptable risks (Art. 5 of the AIA) are now prohibited. For example, the use of real-time remote biometric identification in public spaces, or AI systems that distort human behaviour in a way that causes or is likely to cause harm.
Not only that but also the organizations operating within the European market are required to ensure that employees involved in the use and deployment of AI systems possess sufficient AI literacy.
By August 2, 2025, the obligations for companies of General-purpose AI model will take effect. This will require the provider of these technologies to comply with the AIA. This also means that if the organisation wants to place such technologies on the EU market, they would need to have an Authorized Representative if they are not based in the EU.
